Wyn Gannon Professor McClure-Wade Expository Writing 1010-044 October 23, 2007 Short Writing Assignment: The Way We Are 1. In the essay, Pollack says that he would, “rather make the whole world cry than 17 intellectuals in a classroom.” He is saying that he and most other filmmakers make their films to reach as many people as possible. He is implying that he doesn’t make his films to impress a small group of people; he makes his films to appeal to the largest number of people possible because that means he has influenced the emotions of more people and it also means more money. Many times throughout the essay he mentions economics, and that is what it all boils down to. Therefore, I believe that most of the creative people that want to make money feel the same way that Pollack does. Artists would probably differ from this perspective though because they hope that their work impresses a single person or small group of people so much that they receive more money from it. I believe that most creative minds thinks like Pollack also because they
