Practice essay #1 Composition 1 Instructor: Mrs. Briese 14 October 2009 The Cabin The small Lost Island cabin, located in beautiful Northwest Iowa, creates an opening into a peaceful environment where I experience serenity during short respites. Since I find tranquility at the cabin, I take notice and appreciate the summer nature provided. The sun irradiates the sky with bright reds, oranges, and yellows, making me more perceptive of my surroundings. The slight breeze is balmy; waves crash against the sand, scarcely large enough to create white water. Bumps rise on my arms, but as I step from the shade of the trees they collapse. The heat on my face is a mnemonic of a loved one’s touch, warm and soothing. The cabin is a place where I experience placidity; no work to do, no one to impress, and the thought of relaxation is plausible. At the diminutive yet quaint cabin, isolation from others is a gift. I do not have to endure the bickering of siblings or the crying of infants; all I have to do is breathe.
