Summary Reaction Essay Obama to do everything ‘humanly possible’ on spill By Robert Burns and Steven R. Hurst 4 May 2010 SUMMARY: Thesis: President Barack Obama is calling the surging oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico a massive and potentially unprecedented environmental disaster’ President Barack Obama traveled to Venice, Louisiana to observe the oil spill of the Gulf of Mexico which is now unleashing an estimated 5,000 barrels a day. How Obama handles this disaster will determine what people will think of him in the future. The oil companies and Government do not have the technology to stop the oil well from leaking so as a result, the oil is killing wildlife and the ecosystem, as well as possibly ruining the coastal fishing industry. The government has brought in equipment to scoop up, burn, and block the oil from moving to the shore. If unfortunate the amount of oil spilling out per day could climb to 100,000 barrels. They may have to smother the leak with a 74 ton metal and concrete box.
