Chapter 15: -respiratory system has five functions: 1.Providing a large area for gas exchange between air and blood. 2.Moving air to and from gas exchange surfaces in the lungs. 3.Protecting the respiratory surfaces from dehydration and temperature change, defense against pathogens. 4. Producing sound and permitting speech. 5. Aiding the sense of smell.
