External Respiration: 1. Pulmonary ventilation = breathing, physical movement of air. 2. Gas diffusion= across the respiratory membrane between alveolar air spaces and alveolar capillaries and across capillary cell membranes between blood and other tissues. 3. Transport of oxygen and CO2 between alveolar capillaries and capillary beds.
