Bryan Mattfeld PID: 905412174 September 2 nd , 2009 1. There are numerous benefits to trained alcohol consumption intervention. Most notably is the prevention of alcohol abuse. Trained servers are able to better regulate the rate and quantity of alcohol consumption of patrons, and as a result dissuade patrons from attaining a higher BAC. Also, there are implications to DUI and drunken driving, as patrons are more likely to drink responsibly and remain under the legal limit upon leaving the bar. From a business based perspective, the increased intervention by servers can result in greater gratuities as a result of increased time spent focusing on the costumer, as well as a unification of managerial and staff goals. 2. The TIPS training begins by providing servers with information regarding the physical and mental effects of alcohol, as well as information on specific signs which suggest an elevated BAC. Also, they are taught a variety of skills to successfully deal with intoxicated patrons, allowing for a much smoother and
