Company Report 2 - analyze the data (financial statements, stock data), look at 3-year trends. -Consult the experts (see value line report) -What investment recommendations do the experts make? -Use library website and go to databases and use Value Line Investment Survey, for access to experts opinions on issues Chapter 19 - Using Securities Markets for Financing and Investing Opportunities -Know the difference between primary and secondary capital markets (stocks or bonds) -Know the most popular market indicators: Dow, S&P 500, and NASDAQ -Identify classes and features of bonds; know how they are rated according to risk. -Understand the difference classes and features of stock. -Understand the trade-off between profit and risk, be able to rank order types of investments and according to risk, from low to high. Functions of Securities* Markets (Stocks, Bonds, Commodities Futures) -A place where buyers and sellers of securities can get together to trade. Or a physical stock exchanges vs. virtual exchanges (NYSE, NASDAQ). Market Indicators -and what they tell us about the overall market. -Dow Jones Industrial Average (The DJIA of the Dow) and average of the top 30 companies. -The Standard & Poor (S&P) 500:500- medium 00cap stocks that are frequently traded -The NASDAQ (pronounced “NAZDAK”) looks at newer technological companies.
