Andrew Medoro Business Management 111-C 17 October 2010 Richard Smuckers’ talk at the Farmer School of Business on Success and Peanut Butter related the current state of our economy to the sales of peanut butter. In the sense that as peanut butter is relatively inexpensive if peanut butter sales are up, the economy is down as people are budgeting their food purchases more carefully. He then went on to describe his hope that we can conclude our economic struggles with a Great Recession and that our children will not have to experience another Great Depression. Smucker then went on to describe how all recessions and post recession periods are essentially a repeating cycle that have occurred over the last few centuries. Three major periods of economic change were recounted next including the technological influx of the early 2000s, the corporate scandals of 2005, and the modern recession which began in 2007. Part of Smuckers’ talk covered the need for conscious capitalism and he brought up the
