The Lockheed Martin Corporation is an American-based corporation that focuses on the design, research, production, and manufacturing of advanced based technology systems both domestically and overseas. They largely produce industrial goods with the bulk of their products ranging from aerospace/defense products and services. This company operates in four sections, Aeronautics, Electronic Systems, Information Systems & Global Services (IS&GS), and Space Systems. Some of their major products include military air defense vehicles such as the F-22 Raptor, the F-16, and the C-130J Super Hercules tactical transport aircraft. B. Their company headquarters is located in Bethesda, Maryland, and they have several overseas locations in the United Kingdom, and in Canada. C. Lockheed Martin employees’ 140,000 people on a full time basis. D. This corporation has a number of competitors including the Boeing Company, Northrop Grumman Corporation, and the Raytheon Company. E.,, 3) Lockheed-Martin was originally founded in the early 1990’s following a merger between two of the world’s largest aerospace engineering firms Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta. The fledgling industry was hit extremely hard by the Great Depression in the late 1920s, the company was initially bought out and The Lockheed Corporation was once again founded by Robert E. Gross in 1934. World War II offered a tremendous opportunity for the company under the guidance of Clarence (Kelly) Johnson, who is considered one of the best known American aircraft designers — answered a specification for an interceptor by submitting the P-38 Lightning fighter plane, a somewhat unorthodox twin-engine, twin-boom design. The P-38 was the only U.S. fighter design to be built for the entire duration of the war. It filled ground attack, air-to-air, and even strategic bombing roles in all theaters of the war in which the United States operated.
