Will Boas Homework #3 1. After intensive research by numerous scientists, it can be concluded that the basic cause for the great geological and topographical diversity in Central Asia is caused by the geological collision between the Indian Subcontinent and Eurasia. 2. After the initial collision of the Indian Subcontinent and Eurasia, India has moved 2,000 kilometers northward. 3. It is believed that current earthquake activity in Central Asia is caused by the continued motion of the tectonic plates. At the point where the plates meet, there is an astronomical amount of force being applied. Numerous fault lines occur in this area, and when one of these fault lines crack, an enormous amount of energy is given off which causes an earthquake. 4. The Altyn Tagh fault zone is large strike slip fault that forms the northwestern boundary between the Tibetan Plateau and Tarim Basin. Other major fault lines include the Haiyuan fault, Kunlun fault, Longmenshan fault and the Xianshuihe fault zone. 5.
