William Boas Presidential Investigation Team Summary Question 2 The question I researched was “did scholars and organizations representing African Americans regard the president as friendly or hostile towards civil rights?” The person who I studied most in-depth was Roy Wilkins. Not only was Roy Wilkins a prominent civil rights activist, he was also a scholar. Wilkins was known as a prominent civil rights activist who organized rallies and protests pertaining to civil rights as well as participating on the March on Washington and the Selma March. He had an excellent reputation as an articulate spokesman for civil rights. He played a role in the developing of the NAACP’s plan of attack to end segregation in the United States. He is one of the founders of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, a premier civil rights coalition that focused on a legislative lobbying campaign for civil rights. He held the position of Executive Secretary of the NAACP, which later became Executive Director, while President Nixon was in office. Wilkins was a high ranking
