Focus Group Discussion In Competency and Performance of TLE Teachers January 13, 2017 Moderator: The Researcher Recorder and Note taker: Gina D. Comorro Secretary: Marilyn R. Llorente Qualitative data from the focus group discussion yielded interesting answers from the TLE teachers respondents by asking them to rate their competence in teaching TLE subject, 5 is the highest (very competent) 4 (competent) 3 (moderately competent) 2 (less competent) 1 (lest competent) 1. What is the level of competency of the TLE teachers in general and in terms of personal and professional values, knowledge of student skills and talents, teaching techniques, monitoring and evaluation skills, relations with family and society, knowledge and curriculum content? Discussant 6 - “In general and in terms of personal and professional values, I think I can rate myself as 5(very competent) because first, for my 23 years in service in teaching TLE, I can say that I had already developed the strong relationships with my colleagues, heads and supervisors. For knowledge of students skills and talents I’ll rate myself with 4.3 (very competent) maybe because I can measure and evaluate the talents, skills, and interest of my students, starting from the opening of the class, since our target is to look for the contestant who is fitted, mindful and skillful enough to join in “Technolympics”. For teaching techniques, I can say its 4.5 (very competent) because some of the areas I am handling in TLE are not inclined to my field of specialization. In monitoring and evaluation skills is still 4.5 (very competent) as I said some of the fields of TLE I am teaching is not inclined of my field of specialization that is why I am not very confident for the tool I am using to evaluate the skills of my students. For relation for family and society it is 5.
And in knowledge and curriculum content it is 4.5, because every year there are new curriculums that are being introduced so you need to adapt and also I do believe that there is always a space for improvement.
