Slide 5 Squamous : can range from very delicate to durable, impenetrable structure Cuboidal Columnar : variations – microvilli, cilia, goblet Transitional : certain features of others Slide 7 Simple squamous : simplest of the cells; very durable; alveoli; where gas exchange takes place; endothelium : interior lining of the blood vessel; glomeruli : filters blood Simple cuboidal : microvilli on surface Kidney tubules : reabsorbs good material that was filtered out Slide 9 Non-ciliated simple columnar : microvilli on surface; found in GI trace (one ex.); eases passageway for material; microvilli will appear later in Gi tract (large intestine); Slide 10 Small bronchi : cilia attach to these and cause particles to be caught and carried out of body Ciliated simple columnar : goblet cells secrete mucus Slide 11 Stratified squamous : 2 or more layers; deepest layer will always be cuboidal; squamous appears only in more superficial layers 1
