9/30/11 Impulse Propagation Main idea When threshold is reached, the sodium voltage gated ion channels open and sodium influxes into the cell. This is depolarization. Then, the sodium channels are shut and the voltage gated ion channels for potassium are opened and potassium is effluxes from the cell. This is repolarization.
