1 Biology 2204: Human Physiology for Nursing Lab Exam 2 STUDY GUIDE 2019 Your lab exam will be held in your regular time slot. Please be on time. Electronics are not permitted during the exam. Calculators will be provided. Below is a list of items to know for Lab exam 2. The lab exam will consist of content taken from the lab manual, Powerpoint presentations, and the lab assignments. LAB 5: PHYSIOLOGY OF THE EAR • The ordered sequence of events involved in the mechanism of hearing. • Identify the structures involved in the mechanism of hearing; know the role of each structure. • The structural pathway for the transmission of electrical potentials and brain regions associated with hearing. • Sound: What is it? How is it measured? What range can we detect? What range are we most sensitive to? • Auditory processing: How do we determine the direction of sound? Perception of loudness. • Types of deafness and how each is caused. • The ordered sequence of events involved in the mechanism of equilibrium (balance). • The structural pathway for the transmission of electrical potentials and brain regions associated with the two types of equilibrium. • How to perform tests associated with hearing, sound, and equilibrium; the name of each test; the purpose of each test; and what is the expected result(s) for each test.
