Her promise to Jamie that she would withhold no secrets and tell no lies could end up putting her in a very difficult position. If Jamie and the rest of the Clan Mackenzie found out, she would likely immediately be imprisoned, or even killed. It is for this reason that Claire has been forced to break the pact that she made with Jamie on their wedding day. However, this was justified because she realized that her own safety was more important than Jamie’s wish for truth. For the most part, Claire has been truthful with Jamie about what has been happening. Other than the obvious lie

Unformatted text preview: involving her time travel, almost everything that she has shared with Jamie has been true. But the lies begin to arise when she must explain her life before meeting Jamie. She claims to Jamie, as well as many others in the Castle Leoch that her husband passed away. She also claims that her name last name is French, and that she has lived there in the past. The few lies she does tell are simply to support her main lie, the fact that she is from the future. Other than the small lies she has to tell to keep herself safe, she is truthful. Despite the fact that Claire does break the pledge she made with Jamie, she is only doing it for both of their best interests, making her lies justified....
