Methane emissions from the natural gas distribution system leak profusely into the atmosphere continuously. Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas that lingers in the atmosphere, trapping heat above and below the Earth’s surface. This undoubtedly results in the warming of the Earth on a large scale. The Northeast has begun to face an increasing amount of powerful, damaging storms. This is coupled by rising sea level, resulting in an increasing storm surge, which will continue to destroy property throughout the coastal regions of the Northeast. By fixing natural gas leaks on a local level, the greenhouse effect can be slowed, saving billions of dollars and also loss of life and property. The purpose of this paper was to discuss my exposure to climate change issues, discuss arguments that can be used to help convince climate change skeptics, discuss how climate change impacts my area, and identify some ways that an individual can help prevent climate change. I discuss how different the views are from people living in a big city versus those living in a small town. I discuss how important it is to keep conversations simple and non-threatening in order to try to convince skeptics that climate change is real. In the impacts section I discuss how climate change will have an effect on different ecosystems and economic sectors in Wisconsin. Lastly, I discuss 15 things an individual can do to be a part of the solution to climate change. I hope this paper helps the reader understand climate issues in Wisconsin with respect to its people and the environment. The use of electric vehicles is projected to take off in Europe and Switzerland is among the top 5 countries of Europe with the most electric and hybrid cars in circulation (European Alternative Fuels Observatory, 2018). Switzerland is also often considered as one of the “greenest” countries in the world. This paper will analyze the Swiss ranking in terms of CO2 emissions and energy production. This document will simulate the effect of converting all the current Swiss passenger vehicles into electric vehicles. Can Switzerland afford to supply electricity to a 100% electric car fleet? Electric cars, in Switzerland, will obviously increase the electricity consumption and thus intensify the challenge generated by the phasing out of its nuclear power plants. The Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector is the second largest emitter of greenhouse gases, in part due to conventional farming practices and mismanagement of soil. Moving from conventional farming methods to regenerative farming methods has numerous benefits including lower levels of direct greenhouse gas emissions, and higher yields in periods of extreme weather or precipitation due to increased levels of organic materials, C, N, P and overall soil health.
