INFANTICIDE AND POSTPARTUM PSYCHOSIS DEFENSE 2 Option #2: Infanticide and Postpartum Psychosis Defense In this essay I will identify the definition of infanticide an give factors that come into play of postpartum psychosis. Also, within this essay I will give a case overview that pertains to this controversial case. Infanticide by definition is a killing of an infant by its parents or by another by the parent’s consent. This terrible act was common amongst primitive people during food shortage or in other countries such as china for population control or in Greece for deformities([ CITATION Fun18 \l 1033 ]. Postpartum psychosis is defined as a rare mental health condition to one and everyone thousand who give birth([ CITATION Ung19 \l 1033 ]. Just like postpartum depression which is considered the baby blues postpartum psychosis is a rare form of mental illness that the most severe for women after childbirth. Due to the additional hormones that are released during pregnancy, the childbirth combined, with the lack of sleep may cause an episode of sadness. These are considered to be a part of the baby blues or more commonly known as Postpartum depression. In rare cases these effects to the mother remain unchanged which causes the mother to be a threat to the newborn child or in medical terms Postpartum psychosis.
