1 Chapter 10 Reaction Rates and Chemical Equilibrium Summary 10.1 Rates of reactions Chemical reaction is a process that reactants are consumed, and products are produced. The rate of a reaction is how fast reactants are used or products are made per unit time. Three factors can increase the reaction rates: higher temperature , more reactants have the required energy, the activation energy higher concentrations of reactants , more collisions among the reactants the presence of a catalyst , which provides a different pathway with lower activation energy 10.2 Chemical Equilibrium Some reactions don’t go all the way to completion, but in both directions: forward (from reactants to products) and reverse (products are turned back to reactants). A double arrow is used in such reversable reaction equation. Reactants ↔ Products Chemical equilibrium is achieved when the rate of the forward reaction becomes equal to the rate of the reverse reaction. At equilibrium, there is no net change in the concentrations of reactants and products.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
