KINES 101 Foundations of Kinesiology: GROUP PROJECT For this project, you will explore the history of physical education, athletics, and recreation at Boise State University, and well as national/international trends in these areas for the time period, 1932-1999. Students will be divided into groups and each group will be assigned a time period to research. Group Project : worth 30 points (paper = 10; presentation = 10; individual = 10) Your group paper and presentation must address the following questions concerning the time period you have been assigned: 1a. What sports appear to have been popular at our school during that time? How can you tell? (2 pages) (possible sources: yearbooks, student newspaper, Boise city newspaper) (# of pages or photos in the yearbook, frequent coverage in the newspapers) 1b. What were the general trends and/or philosophical approaches to sport during that time period (on a national or international level)? (2 pages) (possible sources: textbooks, professional journals, history books, reference books on your time period, FIT video) 1c. Compare and contrast your time period with the past and present . (1 page) 2a. What recreational activities (e.g., clubs, student activities) appear to have been popular at our school during that time? Were sport and physical activity well- represented in recreational activities? (2 pages) (possible sources: yearbooks, newspapers, student handbooks) (# of pages or photos in the yearbook, frequent coverage in the newspapers) 2b. What were the general trends and/or philosophical approaches to recreation during that time period (on a national or international level)? (2 pages) (possible sources: same as #1b) 2c. Compare and contrast your time period with the past and present. (1 page) 3a. What do you know about physical education at our school at that time?
