Fidelia Igwe FI 112 The Other Wes Moore contains numerous topics that can serve of importance throughout the book but the one topic that has proven to be essential is expectations. At a young age, one adapts to what is expected of them and chooses either to meet or exceed that expectation, whether it be negative or positive. With two young black men who are from the same neighborhood, it would be perceived that their fate would ultimately be the same. On the contrary, due to different resources, personal, and parental choices the two diverge onto two opposite paths. One is able to surpass the expectations while the other seemed to fall victim to the trouble that made up the society in which they both grew up in. Wesley Moore opens the book with the telling of his childhood. His father who was a known radio news broadcaster, was a positive role model in his life from the time he was born.
