SELF-MARKETING PLAN 2IntroductionThe modern world is full of opportunities for graduates. Similarly, the labor market is fullof qualified professionals seeking jobs to establish a successful career. Therefore, one needs not only to possess the basic skills and qualifications but also to have a strategy to market themselvesand ensure that they have a competitive advantage over fellow graduates with similar qualifications. Even after securing a job, one still needs to have a strategy to advance along the career path as more experience is gained and more advanced roles are performed. Career Path AnalysisThere are many jobs in financial services firms with positions such as financial planners, business consultants, financial analysts and investment bankers. The most appealing to me is the financial analyst job. Financial analysts are concerned with making financial plans, forecasts andreports that are used for making the investment and financial decisions in organizations (Yang, Shane & Jung, 2012). The securities industry, money management firms, banks, brokerages and other organizations employ financial analysts across the globe. Examples include Deloitte, PWC,and KPMG. The job requires qualification in accounting, finance major, or any finance-related degree. The skills required are analytical skills, Information Technology skills, mathematics, communication and decision-making skills. The Financial Analyst job has some requirements forcareer advancement. A recent graduate with a relevant bachelor's degree will first begin as a junior financial analyst under a senior analyst. Junior analysts thus gain experience and can mix that by pursuing further studies in masters or get certification as Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) from the CFA institute so that they reach the senior analysts level (Investopedia, 2017). Graduates in relevant Master Degree will have a shorter journey towards the senior position.
SELF-MARKETING PLAN 3With greater expertise and experience, senior financial analysts can progress to supervisory positions as portfolio or fund managers or as chief financial officers (CFO). Career GoalsMy short-term career goal is to first secure a job as a junior financial analyst and then advance along the career path to senior management levels.SMART Objectives1.Specific "Specific" addresses the questions on what is to be done and explains the results (Lawlor, 2012). The particular career objective is to progress along the career path, from a junior financialanalyst to a senior analyst2.Measurable Measurable evaluates the goal using quantifiable elements or some standard such as costs, timeframes, etc. I will need further qualifications to achieve my objective, for example, Master degree or certification from the CFA Institute. The timescale forecasted for such certifications is 2-5 years. Therefore, about six years after graduation, I aim to be at the senior management levels.
