Lecture 6 14:27 Jurisdiction  Subject matter  o Have to be able to hear that type of case Territorial o Can be achieved by en persona jurisdiction serve somebody at there  home Substitutive service… can serve roommate or put it in the newspaper if  they were trying to hide Long arm jurisdiction statuary allows someone to reach out of state  and serve somebody in another state to come to yours Car wreck in another state you give their state jurisdiction o En Rim- reason for lawsuit is in that state you have to be sued from that  state o Probably doesn’t exist anymore- Quazi en Rim- state holds your property  ransom Need subject and territorial Venue-the geographical place that a court where a court will actually hear  your case Civil cases are anything but simple General rule- start off venue where the defendant lives… unless you can find
