bond root)(Functional group suffix)
Bold Parts are most important, other parts may be repeated to add all structural parts of the molecule.
Longest chain root is named with a group prefix followed by the chain root. A substituent of a larger chain is a prefix foll
Substituent groups are added in before the main chain in alphabetical order.
The longest chain is numbered to give the lowest substituent group position numbers.
Start numbering with the carbon at end of chain, at a functional group or highest # of bonds between carbons, if possible.
Multiples of the same groups/bonds get a #, as a group prefix, to indicate the number of groups present in the molecule.
Select functional group by order down in table.
