1) A) Mitochondria -Has 2 membranes, the outer and the inner membrane. The outer membrane is smooth and the inner membrane has infoldings called cristae, that increase surface area of the inner membrane, enhancing the efficiency of cellular respiration. -The intermembrane space is the space between the inner and outer membranes. -The mitochondrial matrix is within the inner membrane. It has enzymes, DNA, and ribosomes. Glycolysis is the first stage of Cellular Respiration. -It is catabolic. -Occurs in the cytosol. -Starts degradation process by breaking glucose into 2 molecules of pyruvate Electron Transport -used to break the fall of electrons to oxygen in many steps rather than one huge step. -In the inner membrane of mitochondrion. -Many molecules, mostly proteins to catalyze cellular respiration. B) Chloroplasts capture light energy -They are part of a family of plant organelles called plastids. -Amyloplasts are colorless plastids that store starch. -Chromoplasts are pigmented plastids that contribute to the color of fruit and flowers. -Chloroplasts are neither of the above, for the have a green pigment which is responsible for the color of leaves in plants.
