Personal values 2 Essay 1 January 9, 2011
Background image of page 2
Values are very important not only in my life but I believe in everybody’s life on this planet. The way we act in certain situations has a lot to do with what we value and what we believe in. We can observe that the core values can vary from person to person. It is not a bad thing to have different values or beliefs from somebody else. A person creates scale of his values accordingly to his life, the way he lives, where he lives and how is he educated, what sort of family he grows up in or friends, people he meets every day and so on and so forth. Human values come to us whether we want them or not. Culture and beliefs we hold play a big role too, the whole society around us and how we perceive things from early childhood. Without even properly realizing we absorb thoughts and information from the television, radio, government, teachers, people around us etc. Human beings are very influential. A person who grew up in a rich family in Beverly Hills in California will have different core values that somebody who was raised in the poor village on the south of Romania. Our environment shapes those core values in us and the way we see this world. If for example a young man starts to work in his early age when he is still in the school because his family wasn’t capable to take care of him he will have different values from men at his age when he grows up. He won’t probably value family or friends as much as justice and money. By observing people around me and also realizing my own values I came to the end that although we might differ in some values there are also some we have in common like love, health, family or friends, wealth. There is an interesting thing going on with wealth. Even though people often say “you can’t buy love or health with money”. I think having enough money is important. Well of course we can treat each disease with just having lots of money but maybe can help the process of being hospitalized and possibly cured. But people don’t just die because they are sick, hundreds of thousands of people die every month or so because they can’t afford to buy food, or don’t have proper living, running water, health or social care and such. We can’t buy health with money but we can save people lives. Obviously, it is a bad thing to build up the life on valuing only money. Many people get greedy and usually misuse the money.
