Unformatted text preview: Name: Umer Rehman Class: English Mr. Olsen HEIDEGGER' S EXPERIMENT By Nathaniel Hawthorne People dont change sometimes "If all stories were true, Dr. Heidegger's study must have been a very curious place."(p.2) "Dr. Heidegger's Experiment" is a wonderful story by American author Nathaniel Hawthorne, A devoted scientist, D. Heidegger, calls together his four old friends Mr. Medbourne, Colonel Killigrew, and Mr. Gascoigne, and a withered gentlewoman, whose name was the Widow Witchery. About the characters, Colonel Killigrew is a man who throughout his life has had many different women. Mr. Medbourne was once a rich man who lost most of his poney gambling, but claimed that he lost it in a stock investment.Mr. Gascoigne was an I politician whose career was cut short when caught accepting bribes and Widow Wycherly was formerly a beautiful woman loved by the three gentlemen and secretly by Dr, Heidegger' When the four drink the water, she becomes beautiful again and everybody starts to fight for her hand. One of the big questions that arises in thinking about Dr. Heidegger is what kind of doctor he is. One answer is that he is a physician or medical doctor.
