NIKE, INC. COMPANY PROFILE Nike is a sporting goods company based in Beaverton, Oregon. It was founded in 1964 by Philip Knight and Bill Bowerman under the name “Blue Ribbon Sports.” The company’s name was changed to Nike, Inc. in 1978, after Nike, the goddess of victory in Greek mythology. Nike designs, manufactures, and sells sports clothing, shoes, equipment, and miscellaneous goods to consumers of all ages. One of Nike’s specialties is in athletic footwear, marketing shoes for all kinds of activities, especially soccer, baseball, football, golf, tennis, and running. Nike also produces apparel for a large number of activities, as well as supplying actual sports equipment.
