18:12 ISB 1-20-2011 (Pgs. 28-42) Questions for Exam What is methodological naturalism? What is substantive naturalism? What is creationism? A religious belief that the universe, the earth, and all of life on earth was created by a  divine being. Cannot be tested by science. Evolution banned from textbooks in the US up until 1962 Forbid the teaching of evolution in public schools, and universities. After 1962, evolution was allowed in textbooks This created a backlash, and all the people who supported not having evolution in  textbooks were outraged, due to religious grounds.  They decided to write their own  textbooks (Genesis Flood) Did not want to advocate religious points of view in textbooks because it violated church  and state. Laws repealed in 1968 (Supreme Court Decision Epperson vs. Arkansas) Ruled it unconstitutional to forbid the teaching of evolution in public schools. Roman Catholic Churches, and many other churches permit the teaching of evolution,
