n Brown v. Board of Education n Date : 1954 n Requirements : Equal Protection  n Scenario : Four cases combined. The most famous  case was in Kansas. A young girl named Linda  Brown had to go to school 5 miles from her home,  even though there was a school only four blocks  from her house.  She was not allowed to go to the  closer school because she was black.  The case  went to court and the Supreme Court ruled in  favor of integration.

n PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania n Date:  1972  n Requirements:  Free appropriate public education  (FAPE)  n Scenario : The plaintiffs, the Pennsylvania  Association for Retarded Children, argued that  students with mental retardation were not getting a  publicly supported education.  This violated the  state statute and the students’ rights under the  Equal Protection of the Laws clause of the  Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

n Mills v. Board of Education of the District of  Columbia n Date:  1972  n Requirements:  FAPE, procedural safeguards  n Scenario:   Mills v. Board of Education of the District of  Columbia was filed for all out-of-school children with  disabilities.  At the root of the case were seven  children with disabilities that were denied and  excluded from public education in Washington, D.C.   The resulting judgment mandated that all children with  disabilities be provided a publicly supported  education.
