Interest Groups oOrganizations of people who share common political interests and aim to influence public policy by electioneering and lobbying oBrings us back to Federalist #10 and James Madison –factions oInterest Groups are essentially organized factionsthat share some common political goal (although, levels of organization range from very low to very high) oLobbying : Efforts to influence public policy through contact with public officials on behalf of an interest group Economic groups oA types of interest group that seeks public policies that will provide monetary benefits to its members oTrade association (National Beer Wholesalers), or Labor organizations (American Federal of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, a.k.a. AFL-CIO) . Citizen groups oA types of interest group that seeks changes in spending, regulations, or government programs concerning a wide range of policies (a.k.a. public interest groups) oConsumer advocacy organization -Public Citizens or Family Research Council
