Tuesday March 2, 2010 George Washington is still part of the 18century world of hierarchy which collapses, and a new ideology based on freedom and equality arises. Discussed the definition of freedom because there are restrictions to it examples are abortion and gay marriage. Freedom is open to changes its dependent on the society and time you live in. There are cultural definitions to freedom, there is no such thing as a free society in the abstract sense of the world. There are conflicts in the 19 th century as to what freedom means and who should be an American citizen. First sign of collapsing occurs in 1800, when Jefferson is elected to office, terms his victory the Republican Revolution. It was opposed to the federalist, and the consolidation of power. He wore everyday clothes to his inauguration a contrast to Washington’s inauguration. He thought the outlandish ceremony that Washington had was not suited to a Republican government, but was more like European royalty. Symbolism is important to Jefferson. “Mad Tom in a Rage” is a cartoon of Jefferson tearing down Adams and Washington’s federal government. Jefferson reduced the size of the army by 1/3 cut back the navy from 25 to 7 ships, abolishes
