Students learn tools and basic concepts about how to make financial decisions such as capital budgeting and financing. Topics include valuation of financial and real assets, risk and returns, capital budgeting and capital structure. Ethical and environmental issues While we follow the principles of Finance to deal with financial problems, we also have to consider ethical and environmental issues. Prerequisite ACCT 101, ECON 101, DS 110, 212; ISYS 263 or pass computer information systems proficiency test. Please note that you need to get a grade of C- or better to use FIN 350 as a prerequisite for higher level finance courses. Required text Fundamentals of Corporate Finance, 6 th Edition, by Richard A. Brealey, Stewart C. Myers and Alan J. Marcus, published by Irwin McGraw-Hill, 2008. Homework To help you understand concepts and prepare for quizzes and the final exam, there will be weekly homework problem sets. Homework problem sets will not be graded but their solution will be posted in my website. Financial calculator: It is recommended that you have a financial calculator for this course. Some of the test problems involve financial calculations. No PC and cell-phones are allowed in quizzes and exams. I recommend the HP 10bII+ calculator (Hewlett Packard). Certainly you can have other financial calculators but you are responsible for getting familiar with using them. In lectures, I will use the HP 10bII+ to have a simple demonstration.
