Nicholas Gomez History 100-001 10/4/11 Sun Tzu: The Art of War Discussion 1. How could Sun Tzu’s philosophy of war have relevance in today’s wars and why? Funding a war-as we talked in class; training, weapons, vehicles, fuel and so on is necessary to excel in war because without it the military will run out and possibly fail…“the expenditure at home and at the front…will reach the total of a thousand ounces of silver per day. Such is the cost of raising and army” (Sun Tzu, p. 41) Preparation and adaptation-“the general who wins a battle makes many calculations in his temple ere the battle is fought” (Sun Tzu, p. 40) Right mindset-“ he will win whose army is animated by the same spirit throughout all its ranks” ( Sun Tzu, p. 47)…examples: Leonidas and his 300 Spartans, our confidence and cockiness in our country when we go to war that we are the best and we will win 2.
