Chapter 11- Adolescent Sexuality Cultural Variation in Sexual Socialization Transition into adult sexuality is highly discontinuous Different societies Permissive - transition into adult sexuality is more gradual parents encourage sexual experimentations society doesn’t try to stop them teens don’t have to hide the fact that they’re having sex Restrictive - society tries to restrict sex by encouraging kids to refrain from sex, punishment and public shaming; so adolescents do it secretly. Semi-restrictive - sex is frowned upon but there is no force is put behind it The Sexually Active Adolescent Percentage of 15-19 year olds 49.9% have had vaginal sex 54.7% have had oral sex 11.1% have had anal sex 10% of girls and 5% report involuntary sex before 18 Factors that lead to harassment living apart from parents before 16 those impaired physically, emotionally, etc. poor family/neighborhood
