EMT-B Chapter questions Chapter 12 1.- It is important for the EMS professional to know the difference between medical and trauma emergencies. Trauma emergencies occur when the body suffers from injures cause by the force of an object whereas medical emergencies are cause by a condition within the body, usually a disease. Differences between these types of emergencies do not mean that they occur independently from each other, a medical emergency could lead to a trauma emergency and vice versa. 2.- Common medical emergencies include: Respiratory, when the patient is has trouble breathing, examples are asthma and emphysema. Cardiovascular emergencies affect the patients circulatory system. Neurologic emergencies are those that affect the brain. Immunology emergencies are those that affect the immune system and often weaken it.
