Bottled Water Facts Over six billion gallons of water were consumed and about $7.7 billion was paid for in just the U.S Over 30% of the water used by the bottlers comes from the water supply, in other words, tap water. Some restaurants have water sommeliers that make recommendations to people what type of bottled water they should drink with each entrée. The Natural Resources Defense Council studied bottled water for 4 years on more than 1000 bottles of water and found out that 33% of the bottles violated their own industry standards on quality and safety. Within the same states that it is produced, bottled water isn’t regulated. More than half of all Americans drink bottled water; and about a third of the public consumes it regularly.
