Paper Proposal The overarching topic of this research paper is the Peace Movement and the antiwar protests during the Vietnam War. I chose this topic to answer the questions on how the antiwar movement was effective and where it lacked in effectiveness, how it formed public opinion against the war, as well as their tactics for policy change in U.S. involvement in the war? Also, I would like to justify, in my thesis, that though the antiwar movement had not reached their goal in ending American involvement in Vietnam, the movement was the most effective opposition force in garnering public support against the war, as well as putting enough pressure on some policy makers to change their course of action with U.S. involvement in Vietnam. As for the “so what?” question, this topic and thesis is worth the research and discussion because as American involvement escalated in the Vietnam, first through economic aid to France and then to sending ground troops to the country.
