Levison/Eng.  310 HOW TO DO ESSAY TWO 1.  In the introduction, don't summarize what  all the authors  say.  You only   summarize if you are responding  to an author  or comparing  the ideas of two   or more authors. In this essay, you are not responding  or comparing; you are using the ideas   and  information  you found  in the authors' articles to make YOUR point. 2.  Only use reporting  language  if you are reporting  an author's original opinion   or original ideas . If you are simply  using facts  you learned  in an author's   article, don't use reporting  language. Examples   1 Author's original idea :   Farrell says that we can learn about our culture from visiting the mall (2007). You need  to say, "Farrell says…" because this is his personal opinion. We  need  to know  that he  thinks this, as other people may not have this opinion.  2 Fact:
