ACCT 100 Summer 2009 Exam 1 Review Sheet The exam will consists of multiple choice questions (for terminology), matching of concepts, and various problems, primarily from chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 5, 9 and 14. Be able to account for transactions using either T-accounts or the accounting equation. The concepts covered in these chapters tend to run together, so it’s easier to study them all at once. If you cannot find anything in the chapter, look it up in the index. There should be plenty of solutions available from class examples and homework. Do not wait until the last minute to study!! The material, in small doses, appears to be straight-forward. However, there is a decent amount of information to cover, so it does take time. I’ve tried to be as detailed as possible with what has been listed below. Most importantly, READ THE BOOK!!!! This will solidify a lot of what we’ve been discussing. Other free advice: Make flash cards Re-work problems covered in class and the homework problems. Don’t lie to yourself !! If you need the assistance of your notes to work through a problem, then you don’t know the information well enough to do well on the exam. Work through a chapter a day until the exam. Use the study guide to steer you through the material (i.e., powerpoint slides, class notes and the textbook). Make a list of topics that you’re struggling with and email me for help!! In other words, don’t wait until the last minute. Chapter 1 Topics: Accounting in Action: Distinguish between the basic financial statements and know the basic structure of each: o Balance Sheet Assets=Liabilities + Owners’ Equity o Income Statement Revenue – Expenses = Net Income o Statement of Cash Flows Cash Flows from Operating Activities Cash Flows from Investing Activities Cash Flows from Financing Activities o Notes to the Financial Statements Understand the Interrelationship between the Financial Statements
