Al Ibrahim 1 Syed AL Ibrahim Emily Chiles ENG 112 March 27, 2020 Gran Torino and the American dream The Gran Torino is one of the movies we found to have a close connection with the issues revolving around the American dream. As part of the American dream, it is a belief that anyone can rise from rags to riches. Through the Gran Torino, we can see how the movie is shot to demonstrate the achievement of the American dream. The film involves an immigrant family that moved to the U.S. to have a better life away from the troubles in their previous country. Thao, who is among the main actors, is seen to be a child in the immigrant family and is understood to try to live a healthy life in the U.S. despite the constant pressure he experiences from the neighborhood gang to join them. His American dream is to succeed minus the demands of the gang and have a better life in the US. Despite the U.S. being a premium hub for a good life, I firmly believe that the Gran Torino film demonstrates how most immigrants tend to face several challenges in a bid to achieve their American dream. Life for immigrants in a new region has to be coupled with several challenges. People tend to migrate from one region to the other, mainly to be able to gain access to a good life (Carr 1).
