I presently work at a rehab facility that also has a long term care section that I worked on prior before completing my RN, but I do get floated over there from time to time. In February, we recently switched our EMAR from SigmaCare to Epic. For anyone who is not familiar with the two systems or where they are primarily used, SigmaCare is geared towards long term care facilities and when completing a medication pass or treatments, the nurse clicks off that the administration was completed. As for Epic, it is primarily used in the acute care setting in many hospitals, and our facility was the first to create a SAR/LTC friendly version of Epic. The reason we were required to switch was due to the facility being associated with the Jefferson hospital/ healthcare system and to allow for us to be able to see the hospital records online as well as when patients see doctors in the Jefferson system.This recent switch has been a challenge and continues to be so even since February.
