Bebop Bebop – Early 1940s to Middle 1950s Name comes from the sound of the music. Dominated by the saxophone. Drug use was heavy in the bebop crowd. Tremendous split between musicians and the public. The drug culture became a “social cement” People not involved in the use of drugs were often frozen out of the bebop clique.
