REVIEW FOR FINAL 1) Language Know the difference between a signifier (physical form of the sign—Green light) and signified (meaning, concept in your mind, the thing its referring to—GO!) and be able to apply!! Understand what the quote means on the review sheet. Be able to apply denotative and connotative—examples from class Naming vs. Framing o Be able to apply the different strategies of both naming and framing o Framing : media coverage in relation to visual spectacles (talked about how political leaders have to be careful where they place themselves when they are speaking.) 2) Visual Images 3 different categories: o representations of reality o images as “proof” o argumentative claim 3) Logos Inductive vs. Deductive arguments—any arguments has 2 parts (1) claim and (2) evidence. The difference between the two is the relationship between the claim and evidence. o Inductive : much more intuitive. Starts with evidence and then builds toward some kind of conclusion.
