California Consortium for the Strategic Language Initiative (SLI) / San Francisco State University (SFSU) San Francisco State University's Strategic Language Initiative (SLI) Certificate Program in Chinese-English  program aimed at imparting professional translation/interpreting skills and enhancing language  proficiency. The program seeks to admit a cohort of 12 qualified candidates with native or near-native  proficiency in both Chinese and English language who are committed to receiving professional  translator/interpreter training alongside the pursuit of their major of choice at San Francisco State  University (NOTE: need not be Foreign Language major -- all majors welcome!). The program will consist  of training modules both at the home campus and abroad -- travel abroad and foreign tuition will be paid  for by the CSU Consortium for the Strategic Language Initiative. APPLICATION PROCESS Matriculated students (full-time or part-time, all majors welcome) at San Francisco State University who  submit the following materials and/or arrange to take the following tests prior to the application deadline: 1. Application materials Cover letter 500-word Analytical Statement of Purpose in Chinese and English [NOTE: Two statements -- one  in Chinese, one in English -- the two need not be identical in content]. Statement should address: 1. What is your level of proficiency in Chinese and English language? How did you acquire  your linguistic abilities? What kind of academic training do you have with regard to the  two languages? 2.
