Matt Hines HISP200 Assignment #6 I enjoyed reading the “Urban Diaries” chapter written by Walter Hood. In his passage, Hood is suggesting a new type of environmental design. Hood suggests that Improvisational Design is a better alternative than standard design models. Hood suggests that Improvisational Design confronts an inner city’s social, economic, and political struggles and implement such circumstances into the design. Thus, this process is unique to each design as such problems are different throughout inner cities. However, the standard model suggests a generic model for every design. “Improvisational design strategies make these indigenous patterns and issues visible to the neighborhood and to outsiders, which allows the residents and their daily lives to shape their own communities.” Hood is trying to convey to the reader in this passage that the design to a neighborhood must be specific to that culture. Later on Hood explains how cultures may vary extensively, and it is important to not have a pre-conceived notion of what a culture should be like.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
