Discuss the coming of Christianity to Iceland. How was this related to Iceland’s relations with Norway? What purely internal factors within Icelandic society pushed them toward Christianity? When we look at some of the countries who have gained independence in the Middle East one must wonder if the same anarchy that is present now in their early years of freedom was the same kayos the Icelanders faced when they gained their independence. Like every regime change things are always shaky and the leader had to come down hard on the subornments that wouldn’t conform to his new rules. In the case of the Icelanders their new rule was the law of Jesus Christ. They were being told to turn their backs on the belief system they were accustomed to another they knew nothing about. It is very simple to make spiritual life discussions when your only options are conversion or death. Though the Icelanders a civilization that were valiant warriors but they were no match for the new onslaught of the Christian army. While reading the Njal Saga you get the impression that Norway was the saintly entity
