Contexts of Moral Development Parenting Both Piaget and Kolhberg believed that parents did not  provide unique or essential inputs to children’s moral  development. Parents, in their view, are responsible for providing role- taking opportunities and cognitive conflict. They believed peers played the primary role. However, more recent research reveals that both parents  and peers contribute to children’s moral maturity.
