Why Multicultural  Education? n Educators are faced with the challenge to  prepare students from diverse backgrounds  for life in a rapidly changing society. n By 2020, minority students are projected to be  half of the elementary and secondary school  populations.  n However, the race and sex of the students’  teachers do not match that of the students. n The United States has become both a  multicultural nation and a multi-religious  society. n Teachers must help students affirm cultural  differences while realizing that individuals  across cultures have many similarities. n We need multicultural students  because we need to prepare students  for the multicultural world, assuming  that the student’s parents have taught  them nothing. n By 2010, the majority of students in  our elementary schools, will be from  S.C.W., Ph.D.
