Background: Piecewise linear diode wave-shaping circuits: The circuit shown in "Setup" above generates a piecewise linear transfer characteristic with three segments. In general the number of linear segments is equal to one more than the number of diodes. The important parameters for these types of circuits are the voltages in each of the vertical legs (+2V and 0V in "Setup"), the direction (up or down) which the diode in each leg points, and the ratios of the resistances. The analysis below assumes an ideal diode model. For input voltages V i between 0V and 2V, both D 1 and D 2 are off. Since no current flows in the horizontal resistor at the top of the figure,
